In the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Civil_law_(legal_system)\">civil law<\/a>\u00a0system, there is a division between movable and immovable property. Movable property roughly corresponds to personal property, while immovable property corresponds to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Real_estate\">real estate<\/a>\u00a0or real property, and the associated rights and obligations thereon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The concept, idea or&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Philosophy\">philosophy<\/a>&nbsp;of&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Property\">property<\/a>&nbsp;underlies all property law. In some&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jurisdiction\">jurisdictions<\/a>, historically all property was owned by the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Monarch\">monarch<\/a>&nbsp;and it devolved through&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Feudal_land_tenure\">feudal land tenure<\/a>or other&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Feudal\">feudal<\/a>&nbsp;systems of&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Loyalty\">loyalty<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fealty\">fealty<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Though the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Code_Napoleon\">Napoleonic code<\/a>&nbsp;was among the first&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Government\">government<\/a>&nbsp;acts of&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Modern_times\">modern times<\/a>&nbsp;to introduce the notion of absolute ownership into&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Statute\">statute<\/a>, protection of personal property rights was present in&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Medieval\">medieval<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sharia\">Islamic law<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fiqh\">jurisprudence<\/a>,<sup><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Property_law#cite_note-Makdisi-2005-0\">[1]<\/a><\/sup>&nbsp;and in more&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Feudalism\">feudalist<\/a>&nbsp;forms in the common law courts of medieval and early modern England.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Property law\u00a0is the area of\u00a0law\u00a0that governs the various forms of\u00a0ownership\u00a0in\u00a0real property\u00a0(land as distinct from personal or movable\u00a0possessions) and in\u00a0personal property, within thecommon law\u00a0legal system.
